Living above the planet
1. hackthis : my e-mail is sucking and won't let me send anything out, but my response to you is as follows, "Yea verily shalt thou do this thing with my blessing, and thou shalt bring great joy unto the villagers and hope unto those such as my self who walk through the valley of fever."

2. kattiya : again, my e-mail is sucking and I've been trying to e-mail you for a long time. But, definitely yes about the meta stuff. I'm going to try e-mailing you from my yahoo account, but if that doesn't work out, do you have an AIM SN I can ping you with? I receive e-mail just fine, so you can e-mail me that.

3. Poll!

Poll #349796 What's next?

Use of first person narration in fanfic:

totally weird. 3rd person is more appropriate.
I'm for it, if you're good at it.
I have no opinion, and want only to throw things at you, you silly knnnigit.
no one should use 1st person ever.

Whitney fic:

What the hell are you talking about? What fandom, even?
Nobody cares about Whitney. (Not even Lana, who maybe should have.)
Give it to me, give it to me, give it to me!
What's left to say about him beyond "blonde jock"?

Tell me what to write next, pairing and fandom, and if you've got more, elaborate in comments.

I'm neutral about Whitney, so if you feel inspired, sure, bring it on.
What to write next? Nifra Sue and possibly, do you perhaps remember, somewhere on the periphery, there was a story called Deeper Season? I'd like to see more of if, *EG*, I surely would...

hi darling! yay for meta!! actually it's totally random that i'm awake and checking my friendslist but LJ hates me - my memories just disappeared. poof presto 400+ memories gone. wahhhh... i'm trying to be zen though because maybe i'll go to sleep and wake up and they'll be back?

ok that was delirious rambling, but great to hear i can archive. i actually saw your post from august 14th(?) - some great meta there as well (x4!). maybe next time around? the site's been updated btw:

see i'm fast. *winks*

what is everyone forgetting about HP? gah. i have this dream that maybe one day you'll write H/D (you haven't right? *thinks*) but remus/sirius is always lovely. but whitney! loved whitney. stupid TPTB who killed off a character with real potential. and um, i usually avoid non-3rd person POV like the plague (2nd person POV is what really scares me) but i'll read anything if it's good.

dude, do you think you cut us off enough in the "what to write" box?

Anyway, what I *would* have put was: "Dude? Seriously? I don't think I have to say anything here."

I really dislike first person in fanfic (though, of course, I've written it). I find it jarring usually, and find that the people who use it most are the ones who understand it least, and so, yeah, it's a major turnoff. There are very few fan-written first person stories I've finished.

You know, when I was in Smallville fandom, I hated first person with a *passion*. It was only when I started reading Sentinel and then mostly due South fic that I started first grudgingly accepting and then actually *liking* (and even writing) first person. I don't know if it's a matter of different fandoms being more susceptible to it, or just what you're used to, though.

I think it's partly because I've read so much bad first person, in various fandoms (SV, Buffy, XMM [especially with the dumb Logan. Gah. and Rogue with the accent, even in her narration. Jesus.], LotR [never a good idea there] and HP), that I find it difficult to take.

I mean, yes, there are stories that use it and do so wonderfully. One of my favorite HP stories of all-time does. But all too often, I find the writer's conception of the character's inner voice and my conception of it just don't mesh, and while there's some leeway with even a tight third person, in first I just can't make the leap. Not to mention the minor but irritating breaks in POV etc. that often accompany it.

*nods* I agree. The voices in due South are much stronger and well developed on the show, and when an author can really nail them in first person, it works well. Smallville, not so much, because most of the first person fics I've read in SV don't really capture the characters -- of course, it's all in the skill of the author, as well. But with due South, I got over my 'First person NOOOOO' automatic reaction, because the quality of the fic was so good.

I love first-person narration and I know anything you write will be wonderful. And no, I'm not fluffing your feathers. Just speaking the truth.

As for Whitney, I can take him or leave him but after Roses's screencaps of his in that Canadian movie, I am somewhat *more* interested if you know what I mean. And I'd definitely read a Whitney fic if you wrote it.

What pairing would I like to see from you? I always pant for your angsty CLex stuff. Any chance you'll ever write more of A Deeper Season? Also, I love your RayK/Fraser stuff, too. Oh, and your NifraSue stuff is hilarious. Nifra/Bats would be fun. *g*

Pick your most obscure fandom...the one that most of your 'flist is the least familiar with...and cross it over with the one they are most familiar with.
