dS fic: Watershed (F/K, NC-17)
Title: Watershed
Pairing: Fraser/Rayk
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 6,893
A/N: Lyra went totally over time on this one. I kept her up until daybreak, and well into the next night writing/betaing. She's amazing, and I would be nothing but a quivering pile of insecurity without her. *snugs her girl*

This was *wonderful*. I read it last night, and LJ wouldn't let me comment. I read it first thing on waking today, and now I'm commenting before coffee, so please forgive my incoherence.

Lovely, if you ever again claim you can't write sex scenes, this is my exhibit A. Seriously hot, and also seriously in character and utterly believable. And that's not even beginning to talk about my thing for passionate!Fraser.

I so love the circularity of panic and desperation from the beginning, where Ray jumps in front of that bullet, to the end, where Fraser makes the same kind of stubborn, decisive choice that affects them both just as strongly. They're both arrogant as hell in trying to do the right thing *for* each other. But they don't ask first, because if they ask, they might not get what they need. And that's both complicated as hell and really screwed up, which makes them all the more real and underscores what total, gorgeous freaks they both are.

I'm also in love with how you do the *difference* between their voices. Ray's is a perfect high-tension hum, and in contrast, Fraser resonates with his sexy as hell, unyielding willpower that you'd have to be deaf, blind, and stupid to resist. It's gorgeous.

This was wonderful and as much or moreso on re-reading than it was the first time. You're amazing. *hugs you a lot*

I think so much of Ray *is* circularity, you know? There's a lot of the way he works through his life that's about working around and around and around until he gets closer to where he needs to be, and then he just holds on for dear life.

That may or may not have made sense. *laughs*

But, I'm so happy you enjoyed this so much, babe! *snugs you*

Dude. Duuuuuuuuuuuuuude. I'm just this pile of goo right now. Not particularly pretty, yes, but accurate nevertheless. This was just... and the story... how can you ever doubt how brilliant you are?

*adores madly*

*adores back* I'm so happy you liked it! Also, I think you're pretty even in goo format.

Today was one of the worst days I've ever had in my life and I really needed something that made me feel better, so this story was a godsend. You have no idea.

What if Ray falls hard for Fraser, and then they start knocking boots, and then move in together, and Fraser – decides he wants something better or more Canadian or whatever?

Oh my god, this is so quintesentially Ray, I think I squeed out loud. You have captured the condundrum that is Ray Kowalski so extremely. Reading this quite literally took my breath away as did this --

“I see you, Ray. I see you watch me,” Fraser whispers. His hand clutches at Ray’s hip, fingers so tight that there’ll be bruises tomorrow, and Ray can’t breathe, he can’t breathe, he can’t *breathe*.

Gah!! You have captured the intensity of their bond so amazingly well. I am once again in awe of your incredible talent. I think you already know how much I love your work and you keep impressing me over and over again with each new piece.

*holds onto you very tightly* I'm glad this was so Ray for you -- he's so much fun, isn't he? He's so crazy and high energy that when you write him you get entirely caught up in it. Anyway, I'm happy you liked this! Thank you!

There's this frantic denial in Ray, that's not really. And that is so compelling. God this is a fabulous way to start my day.

Poor Ray, his fear...god. Resolute Fraser, is just so um, mmmm.

Dear God. I am a puddle. It's true. Your sweet, scared Ray and your tough-guy Fraser ("Ask me in."--GUH!) have conspired to melt me clean away. And this:

“You – ” Ray starts, and Fraser just kisses him hard, no-nonsense. Fraser kisses Ray until Ray can’t remember what he was going to say. And he’s suddenly trying to climb Fraser, he’s got both his legs tight around Fraser’s hips, and he’s sucking kisses frantically all over Fraser’s neck and Fraser’s calling his name..

This was just so very good. Mmmn.

Awww! Thank you! *grins* I'm so happy you enjoyed this -- I hope you've solidified again, though. I don't want to be responsible for permanent liquidations! *laughs*

Oh man. This rocked my world. I didn't know I needed to read this until I read it, but I really did. The whole "I can't love you; it'll mess up what we already have"/"get over it and admit you love me, already!" dynamic is familiar and painful and just damned beautiful. You captured it perfectly. Wish I could be more coherent, but basically: yay!! and wow!! :-)

1)re: your icon -- Seriously, if someone could write a dS pole dance fic, I might die from laughing so hard.

2) Dude -- I will take yay and wow and squee all over them. *squees all over them* Thank you! I'm so happy you enjoyed it! *bounces*

I love watching Ray struggle so hard, and then capitulate so beautifully in the end. And I *adored* the way you play with the "I love you Fraser"/"And I, you, Ray" lines from canon. What a perfect resolution.

OK, I usually just lurk and read without commenting, but I have to say...I don't even know what I have to say, but wow. All the fucked-up-ness and the hotness and the, yeah, incoherent wow.

Guh that is hot. Very very nice.

I was rereading this tonight, and I realized that I'd never left you a comment telling you how much I liked this. The part where Fraser is chanting "You love me, you love me"... that is one of my favorite due South fic moments ever, seriously. I love it. It's so -- the way the tension in this story is built up, the way the reader is played into falling into Ray's head, the way Fraser is so desperately earnest, the way Ray knows what's going on, but just doesn't -- just doesn't.

I love this.
fabella: Fraser - Soft Lightwistful_fever on January 9th, 2006 03:49 pm (UTC)
This is, like, the heart of panic right here. The holy shit, holy crap, what have I DONE? Your Ray is pitch perfect, and the way you bring love into the dialogue --- gorgeous. All the way through, gorgeous.
zabira on July 25th, 2007 03:03 pm (UTC)
I just love the emotional progression of this story! The ending is the perfect balance of revelatory and sexy.

I'd love to do a podfic recording of it, and post to podslash. Would you be willing to give permission for such a thing?

(I sent an email, but am doing this too because my email sometimes eats the letters I send instead of...ya know...sending them.)
